According to the marketing material, Starlight FatFree “helps to prevent the absorption of fat and then expels it from the body”.

Supplements of this nature are commonly called fat blockers. The FatFree formulation appears to have little value in this regard but it contains glucomannan, so it could be a potentially good appetite suppressant and the pills also contain some herbs to help people become “slim, healthy and in control”.

Each (2 tablet) serving provides:

• Glucomannan (1000mg): A super-absorbent natural fibre taken from the roots of the konjac plant. When taken with plenty of water, the fibres expand in the stomach and create a feeling of fullness that dulls the appetite. Clinical trials prove glucomannan works, but guidelines provided after an evaluation by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) state three doses are needed per day. The EFSA also state the minimum dose should be 1000mg (taken with 1-2 glasses of water) and stress the importance of eating sensibly. The dose provided here is sufficient, so anyone who takes three doses of Starlight FatFree per day, before meals, and with the required amount of water, should find their appetite decreases.
• Maitake Mushroom Extract, 4:1 (50mg): An ingredient that is highly valued in Japan, where it credited with incredible powers of healing. Maitake is an adaptogen. Ingredients of this type help keep the body’s systems in balance, fight disease, and enhance physical and mental health. Although the significance of “4:1” is not explained in the marketing material, it suggests the extracts have been concentrated to four times normal strength. If this is so, the 50mg dose provided here is the equivalent of a 200mg dose of normal strength maitake mushroom extract.
• Platycodon Grandiflorum Extract, 5:1 (140mg): Also known as balloon flower, platycodon grandiflorum is grown as an ornamental flower in countries all over the world. A scientific evaluation of its many alleged health boosting abilities suggests supplementation with platycodon grandiflorum may improve insulin resistance and help prevent the absorption of dietary fat. However, further study is needed, and the fat blocking ability of platycodon grandiflorum is unlikely to be as good as nopal or chitosan. The extract used here appears to have been concentrated to five times normal strength.
• Gymneme Sylvestre (100mg): An Indian/African shrub extract that is often used in Ayurvedic medicine. It appears to have the ability to decrease sugar absorption rates in the intestine and may have value as a possible treatment for diabetes.

Starlight FatFree Side Effects & Health Issues

Starlight states FatFree is not intended for people who are under 18 years of age. Women who are pregnant or lactating are advised to get medical advice before starting supplementation.

People who are using prescription medication should time the doses so there is a two hour gap between taking the dose of medication and the dose of Starlight FatFree. The maximum dose of six capsules per day should never be exceeded.
